Sharmila Art Printer

Our little shop is in Murli Upadhyay Chawl, specifically Room No here in Goregaon East. If you know Amar Jyothi Nagar, you know it’s a tight-knit spot. It’s a bit of a squeeze getting the bigger paper rolls through the door sometimes. We’ve been Sharmila Art Printer for a long time. Mostly it’s just the sound of the machines running and the smell of fresh ink. It’s not like those big corporate offices you see in the movies. It’s a chawl, so we know all our neighbors and they know when we’re working late because they can hear the equipment. I usually start early before it gets too hot. The space is small, but every corner has a purpose. We have stacks of cards and flyers everywhere. Sometimes a cat from the alley comes in to sit on the cool floor. We don’t have a big fancy sign, just the name on the door. It’s a lot of manual work, making sure the colors look right and the paper doesn’t jam. My hands usually have a bit of blue or black ink on them by lunchtime. We just do our work and go home. People from the neighborhood bring us their small jobs, and we just get on with it. It’s a simple life here in Goregaon, keeping the machines going day after day and making sure we get the paper sizes right for everyone.
