We are right in the middle of Fort, on the second floor of a building on Fort Main Road. It’s room number 5. You’ll know you’re close because the Fort Fish Market is right opposite us. In the mornings, the smell of the market is quite strong, but you get used to it after a week or two. The building is old, with those high ceilings and heavy wooden doors. We do clearing and forwarding work, which means we spend half our time at the office and the other half dealing with various authorities. The stairs are a bit steep, so we try not to forget anything when we head out for the day. Our desks are piled high with documents and stamps. It’s a very manual process sometimes. There’s a lot of shouting across the room when things get busy. We have a small window that looks out onto the street, but it’s usually too noisy to keep open for long. Most of us have worked here for a decade or more. We know all the shortcuts through the narrow lanes of Fort. Lunch is usually something quick from one of the local stalls. We don’t have a fancy lounge or anything like that. It’s just a place where we get the job done. Sometimes we stay late when a ship is docking and there’s a rush. It’s just the nature of the business in this part of town, and we don't mind it.
