About Shankar Metal Pressing Works – Industrial Plant & Machines in Mumbai
We've been here in Kurla West for a long time now. The workshop gets pretty loud once the machines start up in the morning, but that is just how it goes with metal pressing. My father started this place years ago with just a couple of manual presses and we have added some newer ones over the decades. It is not a fancy setup. You will find grease on the floors and stacks of sheets piled up near the entrance because space is tight. Most of the guys who work here live nearby and we have all grown used to the heat during the summer months. People come to us when they need specific parts stamped out. We don't spend money on fancy signs or anything. If you walk down the lane, you’ll hear the thumping sound of the presses before you even see the door. Sometimes the electricity acts up or the monsoon rain makes the roof leak a bit, so we have to move the finished stock around. It is basic work, but it keeps us busy from Monday to Saturday. We usually take a long lunch break when the sun is at its highest. It’s a lot of physical labor, lifting those heavy dies and setting up the jigs. We just try to keep the machines running and get the orders out so they don't pile up too much. It’s noisy and dusty, but it is our daily life here.
