I stay and work out of Room No.1, right opposite Building No.91 in Nehru Nagar. It is in the Mohammad Jamal Chawl, specifically the Punch Shil Nagar part of Kurla East, Mumbai. Kurla is a tough place to navigate if you are not from around here. The lanes are narrow and there are people everywhere at all hours. My place is a small room in the chawl. It is where I live and where I do my business. It is humble, but it serves its purpose well. I have lived in this community for a long time. Everyone knows Shachindra here. The address has some numbers like 25th 198, which mostly makes sense to the local postman and the people who live on this street. Life in a chawl is very public. You hear your neighbors cooking, talking, and living their lives. I do my work right amidst all that noise. It does not really bother me anymore. I think it actually helps me stay focused on the task at hand. I do not have a website or any fancy marketing materials. I just do what I do and people know where to find me if they need help. Sometimes I sit outside on the step when it gets too hot inside. If you come looking for me, just ask for Building 91 and someone will point you to the chawl across from it. It is a simple life.
