Satyam Home Appliances

Our little shop, Satyam Home Appliances, is right here in Andheri West. Being in Mumbai, we deal with the humidity and the rain almost all year round. That means a lot of appliances like fridges and washing machines tend to break down or get rusty. We spend our days traveling to people's houses or working on things right here in the shop. It is a small space, so it gets crowded very quickly when we have two or three fridges waiting for parts. Andheri is always moving fast. The noise from the street never really stops, even late at night. We are just a small team of three people. One of us is usually out on a call while the other stays back to mind the shop. We don't have a fancy website or a big sign. Most people find us by word of mouth or because they live on the same street. We keep our tools in old plastic crates and we know which drawer has the right screws. It’s not a glamorous job, but it is necessary. Sometimes we have to tell people their old toaster is beyond saving, which is never fun. We try to be honest about what can be fixed and what can't. It’s a simple business. We close up when the sun goes down and start all over again the next morning. Sometimes we grab a vada pav from the corner after work.
