If you head down to Kalbadevi and find Popat Wadi, we’re in Gala No 14. It’s a bit of a trek to get here, especially around the 18th Main Road and 40 Cross in the 4 T Block. We’re right near that old photo studio everyone knows. Samrath Knitters Pvt Ltd is a place filled with the sound of machines. We deal with knitting and textiles, so there’s always thread and fabric scraps on the floor. It’s not a quiet office. It’s a workshop. We’ve been doing this for a long time, working with different yarns and patterns. The lighting isn't the best, and it gets quite warm when all the machines are running, but that's just the trade. We aren't big on marketing ourselves. Most people find us through word of mouth or because they’ve been coming to this lane for years. The guys here know the machines inside out. We spend most of the day fixing snags or checking the quality of the latest batch. It’s hard work on your feet, and the space is tight with all the storage. We don't have a website or anything fancy like that. Just the gala, the machines, and the orders we need to finish. It’s a traditional way of working, and we like it that way. We’re just local makers doing our bit in the textile market. It gets dusty and loud, but that is just how the work goes. We've been here for years.
