S M Jain & Co is situated in Room No 27 on the second floor of Mansur B in Marine Lines. It’s a classic old building with high ceilings and those heavy doors that have been painted over a dozen times. Working here means being surrounded by books, files, and a lot of paper. The office isn't very large, so we have to be careful about where we put everything. We spend our days sitting at the desks, going through documents and doing the kind of work that requires a lot of concentration. You can hear the sounds of Marine Lines outside, the cars honking and the general bustle of the city, but it feels a bit removed since we are up on the second floor. We don't have a big team, just a few of us who have worked together for a long time. We know each other's habits and how we like our tea in the afternoon. The furniture is old and functional, mostly wooden desks and metal filing cabinets that have been here since the beginning. It’s not the kind of place that looks like a modern corporate office, and we prefer it that way. It feels more like a workplace where people actually sit down and get things done. We take our time with the work and try to keep things moving along steadily every single day. There’s always another pile of folders waiting for us tomorrow.
