S D Shirole Transport Co is based in the Cotton Exchange building, specifically at 30 Rajdeep Society in the Bagikhana area. We are on the first floor of the Hari Building. It is very close to the Cotton Green Railway Station, so we hear the trains rumbling past all day long. The building is old and made of heavy stone, which keeps it a bit cooler in the summer. We have a lot of ledgers and notebooks because we still like to keep track of things on paper. Our office has a view of the street, so we can see the trucks moving in and out of the area. It is a busy part of the city for transport and logistics. We spend most of our time talking to drivers and making sure loads are ready. It is not a clean or quiet job. There is always someone shouting or a horn honking outside. We have a small staff and we all know each other well. We eat lunch together at our desks most days. There is no cafeteria or fancy break room here. We just have a kettle for tea and some snacks. We’ve been at this location for years, and we know the layout of the railway station area perfectly. It is a practical business. We don’t have time for long meetings or corporate talk. We just focus on moving things from one point to another and making sure the paperwork is mostly right.
