Down here on Erskin Road in the Bazaar area of Mumbai, things never really get quiet. We run Ras Resorts And Apart Hotels Ltd right in the middle of all that noise and life. It’s an old part of the city, and our building at 101 has seen plenty of years. We spend our mornings checking people in and out, making sure the rooms are okay and the linens are clean. It’s a lot of walking up and down stairs and talking to folks who are just passing through the city. The bazaar is right outside, so there’s always the smell of food and the sound of horns honking. Sometimes the plumbing gives us a bit of trouble because the building isn't brand new, but we fix it and move on. We don’t have those big shiny lobbies you see in the movies. It’s more of a practical place for people who need a spot to sleep in the heart of Mumbai. Most of the staff has been here for years. We know the local shopkeepers by name. It’s a bit cramped in the office, with papers stacked up on the old wooden desk. We drink a lot of chai throughout the day to keep going. It’s just a regular business keeping things running in a very busy neighborhood. You get used to the pace after a while. It's not a luxury setup, just a place for staying.
