Raju Saini Tempo Service

We run the tempo service out of Sangam CHS over on 5th Road in Khar West. It’s right there on Dhanji Street. Most of the work involves moving stuff from one part of the city to another. We spend a lot of time behind the wheel or lifting heavy boxes into the back of the vehicle. Khar is a tight area with narrow streets, so driving a tempo can be a bit of a challenge sometimes. We’ve got the one spot at number 754 where we keep things organized. It is mostly just about being on time and making sure nothing breaks during the drive. The traffic in Mumbai is never easy, so we have to plan our routes carefully. It’s a lot of physical labor, especially when there are stairs involved and no lift in the building. We are just local guys who know the roads well. We don’t have a big corporate office; we just have our phone and the tempo. People call us when they are moving houses or if a shop needs to move some stock. We try to be reliable because that’s how you keep going in this neighborhood. Every day is different depending on who needs what moved. Sometimes it’s just a few bags, and other times it’s a whole apartment. We just take it as it comes and try to get the job done without any fuss. It's a hard way to earn a living but it keeps us busy.
