Our office is tucked away in Room 13 on the third floor of an old building on Lamington Road in Fort. It is located right below the Sandeep Gomantak Hotel, so the whole stairwell usually smells like fish curry and spices around lunchtime, which can make you pretty hungry. Shipping can be a real headache with all the paperwork and the rules changing all the time, but we’ve been doing this long enough to know how to handle the stress. The elevator in this building is a bit moody and breaks down often, so we end up taking the stairs more than we’d like. We handle mostly local shipping stuff, moving boxes from one place to another for small businesses. It’s not glamorous work at all. My desk is usually covered in stamps, rubber bands, and folders that need filing by the end of the day. We have a couple of guys who handle the heavy lifting and others who deal with the customs people at the docks. Fort is a busy area, always noisy with traffic and people rushing to the stations. We don't have a fancy reception area or a coffee machine for guests. It’s just a plain room where the work gets done. Sometimes the phones won't stop ringing and other times it is quiet enough to actually finish a cup of tea. We just focus on moving things for people who don't want to deal with the logistics themselves.
