Pretty Girl

Working out of Shiv Parvati Apartments here in Versova is a bit different than being in a traditional factory. At B 503, we are right in the heart of Andheri West, which means the sounds of the city are always coming through the windows. Pretty Girl is a small operation, and we basically turned this apartment into a working studio. There are racks of clothes in the hallway and boxes stored in what used to be a dining area. When the Mumbai rains start, we have to be really careful about the dampness coming in through the balcony. It’s a bit cramped, especially when we have a lot of new stock arriving at once. We don't have a receptionist or a lobby; you just walk in and see us working at our desks or checking the quality of the stitching. The local courier guys know us well because they are always climbing up to the fifth floor to pick up packages. Sometimes we take a break and look out at the rooftops of Versova, but mostly we are busy with the phone and the lists of orders. It feels more like a home than a business sometimes, with the kitchen being used for quick snacks and endless rounds of tea. We just try to keep things moving and make sure the clothes are packed neatly before they head out into the busy streets.
