Fort is the heart of old Mumbai, and Pratap Lunch Home sits right in the thick of it at 79, M B House. We are on Janma Bhoomi Marg, just opposite Siddharth College. It is a place that feels like it belongs to another time. The building is old and has that heavy feeling that Mumbai buildings get. During lunch, the place is packed with people from the offices nearby. It is loud and the waiters have to move fast to get everyone fed. We serve food on simple plates and the tables are close together. You might end up sitting next to someone you don't know, but that is just how it works in Fort. The address 400001 is where everyone comes to work, so we are always busy until the evening. We don't do anything fancy with the decor. The walls have been the same color for a long time. We just focus on getting the kitchen going every morning. It smells like onions and spices from the moment we open the door. When the rain comes down hard in the monsoon, the street outside gets flooded, but people still come in for a hot meal. It is a honest living in a very crowded city.
