Popular Hair Saloon is at Shop No 481 on J.S.S. Road. It’s right in the Chira Bazar-Kalbadevi area of Mumbai. If you look across the street, you’ll see P.M Shah & Co. That’s the easiest way to find us. This part of Mumbai is always crowded and moving fast. Our shop is small but it has everything we need to work. We have the usual chairs and a small sink in the back. The walls are painted a light color to make it feel a bit bigger. Since it’s Chira Bazar, there’s always noise coming from the street, people shouting and horns honking. We’ve been in this spot for a long time. The floor gets covered in hair pretty fast so we are always sweeping. We keep our combs in jars and have stacks of clean towels ready. Most of our regulars just walk in without calling. They know when we’re busy and when it’s quiet. We don’t have air conditioning, just a couple of wall fans that stay on all day. It gets humid in the monsoon but we just keep the door open. It’s a very simple setup. We do haircuts and shaves for the local guys and the shopkeepers around here. It’s a living, and we just keep at it every day from morning till night. Sometimes the tea man comes by and we take a short break. That's about it for us.
