Pinakin

We’re located in the Raghuvanshi Mills Compound, which most people know is off Senapati Bapat Marg in Lower Parel. Pinakin has been here since before the area became so popular with all the new cafes and shops. Our space is inside one of the old mill buildings. It has high ceilings and those big windows that let in a lot of light, though they’re usually a bit grimy. We work on furniture and interior pieces. It’s not a quiet office. There’s always someone hammering something or moving heavy tables around. We don’t have a formal dress code or anything. Most of us are just in jeans and old shirts because you're likely to get paint or dust on you at some point. The compound itself is always crowded with cars and delivery vans, so getting anything in or out is a bit of a challenge. We spend a lot of time just talking through designs and trying to figure out how to make things work. It’s a lot of trial and error. We aren't trying to be the biggest name in Mumbai; we just want to make stuff that looks okay and lasts a long time. People drop by without calling sometimes, and we just give them a stool and keep working while we talk. It’s just how we like to run things here.
