Phthalo Colours & Chemicals (I) Ltd.

Our office is in the Fort area of Mumbai, inside the Nanavati Mahalaya building on Homi Modi Street. It’s a historic part of the city with all those old stone buildings and high ceilings. Phthalo Colours & Chemicals has been here for years. We deal with a lot of chemical pigments and dyes, mostly the paperwork and sales side of things from this office. The street outside is famous for being near the big corporate houses, but our office feels more like a quiet library. We have big windows, but they mostly look out onto other old buildings. The desks are covered in samples and technical data sheets. It’s a lot of coordination between the factories and the customers who need specific colors. We aren't a big corporation ourselves, just a steady group of people who know the chemical trade well. Sometimes the building's plumbing acts up, but that’s what happens when you work in a place this old. We don't have a big reception area with a screen; you just walk in and someone will help you. We keep things simple. Lunch usually involves someone going out to get sandwiches or Vada Pav for everyone. The building, Nanavati Mahalaya, has a lot of character even if the stairs are a bit worn down. We have some old wooden cabinets filled with color charts and chemical lists. It’s a bit of a maze inside with all the different rooms and hallways. We don't have a big sign outside. We just try to get the work done.
