Our place, Permalon Transmissions, is tucked away in West Vengola. It's a bit of a drive to Chundamala near Perumbavoor, but we've been operating out of here for a good while. Dealing with transmission parts and belts isn't exactly exciting work, but it’s what pays the bills and keeps us busy. We handle a lot of orders that go out to different places across the region. It gets pretty humid here in Ernakulam, so the warehouse can be a bit of a sweatbox in the peak of summer. We started as a small private company and stayed that way, keeping things simple and manageable. There’s a lot of paperwork to deal with, especially with shipping stuff out toward Mumbai and the Maharashtra side. We aren't trying to be the biggest outfit around or compete with the giants. We just want to make sure the parts we send out don't fail the first time someone puts them to use. Our staff is mostly locals from around the Perumbavoor area. They know how to pack things right so nothing gets banged up in the back of a truck. Sometimes the lorries are late because of the monsoon rain, which happens a lot in this part of the country. We don't have a fancy website or a big PR team to handle things. It's just us in the small office and the warehouse guys making sure the stock is where it needs to be. We keep the inventory lists on old ledgers and some on the computer now.
