About Peoples Mobile Hospital – Medical & Healthcare in Mumbai
Operating a mobile hospital is a lot different than having a fixed building. Our base is on Dr. Annie Besant Road, right across from the Glaxo building, which is a big landmark in this part of town. The vehicle itself is a bit old now, and the engine makes a loud rattling noise when we start it up in the morning. Inside, it is quite a tight squeeze. We have a small examination table and some cabinets bolted to the walls so things don’t fly around when we are driving. It gets very hot inside during the summer months, even with the small fans we installed. Parking on Dr. Annie Besant Road is a nightmare, so we have to be careful where we stop. We see a lot of people who work in the nearby offices or the laborers from the construction sites. It is not a place for major surgeries, just the basic stuff we can handle on the move. We carry a lot of bandages and basic medicines in plastic bins. The paperwork is mostly done on a clipboard that has a cracked corner. Sometimes we have to stop and wait for the traffic to clear before we can even open the doors for patients. It is a bit of a rough way to run a clinic, but it reaches people who might not go to a big hospital. The fuel gauge is broken, so we have to keep a manual log of our petrol.
