Patwa & Sons is situated on Abdul Rehman Street, at number 42, Shree Natwar House. We are right across from Hotel Jagdish. This part of Mumbai is always packed, and our street is no different. It’s an old building where we’ve been based for generations. The business has been passed down through the family, so there’s a lot of history in these walls. Selling various goods keeps us busy, and the shop is usually full of boxes and customers looking for specific items. You won't find air conditioning or a fancy lounge here. It’s a traditional shop where knowing our customers by name is common. We spend our time managing stock and talking to people who walk through the door. Things can get pretty frantic during the middle of the day with the crowds outside and the phones ringing. Modern marketing isn't something we spend much time on. Instead, we rely on the fact that we’ve been here forever and people trust us. The stairs are a bit steep and the lighting could be better, but it’s home to us. Our fathers and grandfathers did this work before us, providing what people need at a fair price. It’s a busy life, but we wouldn’t have it any other way. There is something nice about being part of the old city market and seeing the same faces year after year. Most days we keep the shop open until quite late in the evening.
