Beekay Overseas

We are way up on the ninth floor, specifically 904 and 905, in Parekh Market. This building is right at Opera House, 39 J. S. S. Road. If you know the area, you know how crowded it gets. The elevators in this building are always slow, so we end up waiting a lot. Up here, it’s a bit quieter than the street, but you can still hear the traffic from the Opera House junction below. Our space is mostly just desks, computers, and a lot of files. We handle things for overseas, so there’s always talk about shipping dates and port delays. The light in the afternoon hits the windows pretty hard, so we have to keep the blinds halfway down. There’s always a stack of empty chai cups on the side table by three in the afternoon. We don’t have much room for anything fancy. It’s a functional place. People come in with documents, we sign them, and they leave. Sometimes we have to stay late when the time zones don't match up with the people we are talking to. It gets a bit lonely in the building after six when most of the other offices shut down for the night. But we just finish up the logs and head home. The Parekh Market has been our base for a while now, and we’re used to the quirks of the old building and the constant hum of the city.
