Pacific Chemical Industries

Masjid Bunder West is a place where you really have to know where you’re going, or you’ll end up circling the same three blocks for an hour. We are located in Purshottam Bhavan, building number 13-Isaji, over at Jal Darshan 51. It’s an old part of the city, and the building definitely shows its age, but it’s sturdy. Pacific Chemical Industries operates out of this space, and it’s usually a bit of a scramble every morning. The streets outside are narrow and always jammed with carts, delivery trucks, and people in a hurry. You get used to the chaos. Inside, we deal with all sorts of chemical products, so we have to be careful with how things are stored and handled. It’s not the kind of work you can do while daydreaming. We spend a lot of time on the phone or checking invoices while the sounds of the market roar right outside the window. The office isn't much to look at, just some old desks and stacks of files that seem to grow every week. We don't have any interest in being corporate or polished. We’re just here to do a job in a very busy, very crowded part of Mumbai. It’s hot, it’s loud, and there’s always something that needs fixing, but we’ve been here long enough that it feels right. We just take it one order at a time and try to stay out of the way of the madness. Most days we succeed at that.
