P K Collection

P K Collection is right on Mumbai Chakala Road, specifically at number 131. If you know the area, you know how loud it gets with all the trucks and rickshaws going past the window. We opened this place because we had some experience with textiles and wanted to try doing it on our own. The shop is narrow, so we have to stack things high up on the metal shelves. Sometimes I have to use a ladder three or four times in ten minutes just to show different colors to one person. It gets really tiring by the evening. We get a lot of people who work in the nearby offices stopping by on their way home to the station. The air conditioner in here works okay, but when the door keeps opening, it really struggles to keep the place cool. We try to keep the latest stuff in stock, but sometimes the shipments get delayed because of the heavy traffic on the road outside. My brother handles the accounts while I talk to the suppliers on the phone. We usually eat our lunch in the back room among the cardboard boxes. It isn't a glamorous setup at all, but it works for us. We've had the same sign out front since we started. It’s a bit faded now from the Mumbai sun. We don't do any big ads or anything like that; people mostly see us when they are stuck in traffic or walking. We just keep things moving along.
