Ornate Coutures

Our shop is based right in the heart of Kandivali. It’s a small space, but we manage to fit everything we need inside. You’ll usually find us hunched over a table with measuring tapes and chalk. Kandivali is a crowded place, and our street is no exception. There is always a lot of movement outside, which keeps things interesting. We don’t have a big staff or a fancy website. It’s just a few of us who have been doing this for years. We spend our mornings talking to people about what they want to wear and our afternoons actually making it. The floors are often covered in threads and small bits of lace that we sweep up at the end of the day. It’s not the kind of place where you’ll find people in suits unless they’re getting fitted for one. We prefer the quiet work of hand-stitching and fixing hems. Sometimes the monsoon rain makes the roof a bit noisy, but we just keep working through it. We’ve got a couple of old sewing machines that sound like tractors, but they never let us down. People find us mostly by word of mouth because we’ve been in this neighborhood for so long. We aren't interested in being a huge brand. We just like seeing someone walk out with something that fits them right. It’s basic, honest work and we’re fine with that. It's just us, some needles, and a lot of fabric. There is always something that needs fixing.
