You can find us in the Ratnadeep Building, right near the Opera House. We’re up on the first floor in Room No. 21. It’s a bit of an old building, so you have to walk up the stairs or take the lift if it’s working that day. Being near the Opera House means we are in the heart of the jewelry district, so there’s always something happening in the hallways. Our room is small but it’s enough for what we do. We have some display cases and a space where we can sit and talk with whoever comes in. It’s often quite cluttered with ledgers, catalogs, and little boxes of jewelry pieces. We don’t really have a cleaning crew, so we just sweep up ourselves at the end of the day. It’s a very practical way of working. Most people who come to see us are looking for something specific, and we spend time going through what we have in the drawers. It’s not like a big department store where everything is laid out under bright spotlights. We have to pull things out and show them under the desk lamp. The walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint, but we’re usually too busy to worry about that. We just focus on the jewelry and making sure we have what people are looking for. It’s a lot of long hours, but we like being in this part of town.
