Om Engineers

Out here on L.B.S Road, specifically near Sonapur Lane 31, things stay moving. Om Engineers isn't a massive factory, just a decent-sized workshop where we get our hands dirty. The address is easy to find if you look for the old gate. We spend our mornings checking the machines and making sure the oil levels are okay. It’s mostly mechanical stuff. Some people bring in parts that are rusted through and ask us to replicate them. We do our best with what we have. The noise is something you get used to after a week or so. It’s better than sitting in a quiet office if you ask me. We have some old lathes and a drill press that’s probably older than I am, but they still work fine. The floor is concrete and stays cool even when it's hot outside, which is a blessing. We don't really do much advertising. People usually find us because their friend told them we were here in Sonapur Lane. We drink a lot of chai throughout the day to keep going. Sometimes the rain leaks a little through the roof during monsoon, but we just put a bucket under it and keep working. It’s a simple life. We close up around seven most nights, unless there's a big job that needs to go out early the next morning. Then we stay late.
