Om consultants India is tucked away on V B Phadke Marg in Mumbai. Being in Mumbai means it is always loud outside with the traffic and people constantly moving. Our office is a bit small, filled with stacks of folders and papers that seem to grow every week. We spend most of the day on the phone or sitting across from people who need help with their paperwork. The ceiling fan wobbles a little when it is on the high setting, but it helps with the humidity. It is a practical space, not really meant for showing off. We have a few mismatched chairs for people to sit in while they wait. Sometimes the rain gets really heavy and you can hear it drumming on the building, which makes it hard to hear the callers. We don't have a receptionist in a suit; usually, whoever is closest to the door just looks up and says hello. Everything is handwritten in ledgers or typed up on older computers that have been with us for years. It is a bit of a squeeze when more than three people are inside at once. We just focus on getting the details right for whoever walks through the door. Phadke Marg is a busy spot, so there is always something happening right outside the window. We just keep our heads down and handle the consulting work as it comes in. It takes up most of our time.
