Old Hanuman Lane is one of those spots that never really goes quiet, even when you want it to. Our little shop is at number five, right in the middle of all that Kalbadevi Road energy. It is a tight squeeze, honestly. We have stuff piled up on the shelves and drawings pinned to the walls wherever there is a gap. Being in Shop No. 5 means we see everyone walking past to the bigger markets, and the noise of the street is just part of the background now. Most mornings start with moving a few boxes just so everyone can sit down at their desks. It’s not the most organized place in Mumbai, but we know where everything is. The fan overhead makes a clicking sound that we’ve stopped noticing, and the walls could probably use a fresh coat of paint if we ever found the time. We spend most of the day looking at designs and trying to figure out how to make things fit. Lunch usually comes from the guy around the corner who brings tea in those small glass cups. It is a bit cramped and the air gets heavy when it rains, but this is where we do what we do. People drop in without calling first, and we just pull up another stool. It’s a simple way to run a business, and it works for us.
