Nirmiti Art

We are up on the second floor of the Fine Mansion building at 203 Fort Sai Chowk. It’s right in the middle of Pimpri Colony. The stairs are a bit steep and narrow, so you have to watch your step coming up. Once you get inside the shop, there’s a lot to look at. We have frames leaning against the walls and canvases stacked up in the corners. There is always a faint smell of oil paint or wood glue in the air here. It’s an art space, so it isn't very tidy most of the time. We have brushes in jars and bits of paper everywhere. The windows give us a good view of the chowk below. It’s interesting to see the crowd moving while we work on a project. We do a lot of different things here. Some people want a picture framed, others are looking for a specific kind of paint for their hobby. We aren't a big gallery with white walls and spotlights. It’s more of a workshop. Sometimes we are busy hammering frames together and it gets a bit noisy for the neighbors. Other times it’s quiet and we’re just sketching or mixing colors. People from the colony drop in just to see what’s new on the easel. We’ve been in this building for a while now and it feels right. The light in the afternoon is the best for working on the fine details. It is a steady life.
