Being on the ground floor of Sankar Daul in Santa Chembur has its ups and downs. The R-2 unit is where we keep all the machines, and they make a steady humming noise from morning until we lock up for the night. There are stacks of paper everywhere you look, some of it glossy and some just plain white sheets waiting to be used for the next job. Sometimes the ink gets on our clothes, especially the bright blues and reds that seem to linger on your skin for days even after scrubbing. We spend a lot of time staring at computer screens, making sure the lines are straight and the colors look okay before we hit the print button. The neighborhood in Chembur is always busy, so there is a lot of dust that drifts in through the open door. We have to wipe down the equipment every few hours to keep it running right. Customers pop in and out with their files on thumb drives, wanting things done quickly. It gets a bit hectic when multiple jobs are running at the same time and the space feels small. We’ve got a little corner for tea and snacks, which is where we sit when the machines are doing their thing. Nirmal Graphics isn't some big corporate office; it’s just a workspace where we get things onto paper and try to keep everything organized.
