We operate out of Harsoon Mansion, right across from the Azad Hotel in the Crawford Market area. Being at 135 Chinch Bunder means we are right in the middle of all the heavy moving and noise. This part of town is always busy with trucks and people carrying loads. Our office is simple, just some desks and a lot of paperwork piled up. We deal with moving goods from one place to another, which involves a lot of phone calls and checking on drivers. Sometimes the weather makes things difficult, or the traffic in South Mumbai stalls everything for hours. We don’t have a big corporate setup. It’s more about knowing the routes and making sure the items get loaded properly. There’s usually someone here late into the evening because the work doesn’t really stop when the sun goes down. We’ve been in this building for a long time. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint, but we’re usually too busy with the logs and the schedules to worry about that. People come in to settle accounts or ask about their shipments. We tell them how it is, whether there’s a delay or if things are on track. It’s a gritty business with a lot of dust and loud engines, but it’s what we know how to do. New Sarvodaya Transport Co is just a small part of this big market system that keeps the city moving.
