Navgraha Restaurant

Navgraha Restaurant has been here on G M Road for quite some time. We sit right across from the Shopper Stop in Chembur West. If you know Mumbai, you know how busy this area gets. There is always someone walking by or a rickshaw honking outside. Our place is a bit of a refuge from all that noise, though it gets plenty loud inside during the lunch rush. We serve a mix of things because people in Chembur have different tastes. It’s not a fancy place with velvet chairs. We have sturdy tables that have seen a lot of use over the years. I usually handle the front while the kitchen staff stays busy in the back. Sometimes we run out of a certain dish by evening, and we just have to tell people sorry. It happens. We try to keep the floors swept and the water jugs filled. It’s a lot of work running a restaurant in this city. You have to be quick. Most of our customers are locals who live in the apartments nearby or people finishing up their shopping across the street. We don’t do any big advertising. People just know we are here. It’s a neighborhood spot, really. We see the same faces almost every day. That’s the nice part about working here. It feels like we are part of the street’s history and just another part of the busy life in Mumbai where everyone is always moving somewhere new.
