National Film Development Corp. Ltd (A Govt. Of India Enterprise)

Being part of the National Film Development Corp. Ltd means we spend a lot of time on the 6th floor of the Discovery Of India Building. It’s a government office, so there’s a fair bit of paperwork moving around the desks here at Nehru Centre in Worli. You can see the city moving outside from the windows, but inside it’s mostly about files and discussions about cinema. We have been in this spot on Dr. A.B. Road for many years. It isn’t like those flashy private film studios you see on TV. It’s more of a steady, quiet environment where people follow the rules and get things processed. Sometimes it’s busy when new projects come through, and other times it’s just the usual office routine. We deal with all kinds of film-related stuff because that’s what a government enterprise does. The building itself is quite well-known in the area, so visitors don't usually have a hard time finding us. Most of us have been working here a long time, so we know the hallways and the elevators pretty well. We grab our tea during the breaks and talk about whatever is happening in the industry. It’s a specific kind of job, working for the state in the middle of a place like Worli, but it’s what we do day in and day out. We just try to keep things moving along as they should for the movies.
