Nakoda Art Jewellery

You can find us at Room No. 274 in Shukla Chawl. It’s tucked away in Kurar Village, right behind Shyam Studio. Pushpa Park is close by, and the highway isn’t too far either if you’re coming from Malad East. Nakoda Art Jewellery started out small in this room and we’re still here. It’s not a big showroom with bright lights. Instead, we have workbenches and small drawers filled with beads and metal parts. Most days, the noise from the village is in the background while we sit and assemble pieces. We don’t have a website or anything like that, we just work. Sometimes the lights flicker when the weather is bad, but we manage. People from the chawl know us well. We make jewelry that people use for weddings or just everyday wear. It’s a bit of a squeeze when we have a lot of stock, but we make it work. We’ve been behind Shyam Studio for a long time now. If you’re walking through Kurar, you might miss the entrance if you aren’t looking for the number. It’s just a regular workplace where we spend our hours putting things together. We don’t really worry about being fancy. Just staying busy is enough for us. My brother helps with the deliveries when he has time off from his other job. We usually have the radio playing low so it's not too quiet. The floor is concrete and the walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but it's home to us. It is enough.
