About Nahid Art Hand Embroidery – Housewares & Supplies in Mumbai
It’s usually pretty busy here at Gala No 74 A on the Station Road. We’ve been doing hand embroidery for a long time now. The light inside the shop isn't always the best but we make it work because the fabric needs a lot of attention. Byculla is a loud place especially being so close to the station. You can hear the trains passing while we sit with the needles and frames. Most of the guys here have been doing this since they were kids. It’s a lot of sitting down and focusing on small details which can get tiring for the eyes after a few hours. We get all kinds of cloth coming through. Sometimes it's for wedding stuff and other times it's just regular pieces people want to look a bit better. The tea guy comes around twice a day and that’s when we usually take a break. It is not a fancy place by any means. There are threads everywhere and scraps of cloth on the floor by evening. If you come by Dadaji Road you will find us easily enough. We just do the work and try to get it finished on time. It’s hard work on the fingers but that’s just how it goes with hand embroidery. We don't have a big fancy showroom or anything like that. Just the workshop where the actual work happens every day.
