We are tucked away here on 2nd Gunpowder Lane in Mazagaon. It is a busy little spot, mostly. Nafeesa Surani Fashion And Accessories has been in this building for a while now. Some days the lane gets very crowded with bikes and people walking to work, but we just keep the doors open. Inside, there is usually a lot of fabric lying around and different accessories we have gathered. It is not a big fancy showroom or anything like that. Just a simple place where we get our work done. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint, but the light comes in nicely in the afternoons. Most people who come here are from around the neighborhood or they heard about us from a friend. We don't do much fancy advertising. We just like making things and keeping the cost where people can afford them. Living and working in Mazagaon has its own rhythm. You get used to the sounds of the street and the specific way the air smells near the water. It’s a real place. We spend most of our time sorting through buttons or fixing a hem on a dress. It’s quiet work usually. If you are looking for us, look for the small sign near the corner. It’s easy to miss if you are rushing, so just slow down once you get onto Gunpowder Lane. We are usually here until the sun goes down and the street lights start flickering on for the night.
