Our hall is tucked away in Chembur, right behind the Shopper Stop area. It belongs to the Shri Kutch Vagad Lohan Mandal. It’s a community space more than anything else. We are located in Tulsi Baugh. Usually, the place is full of activity, especially during the wedding season or local festivals. It’s a big room with a lot of fans that make a bit of a humming noise. We spend a lot of time cleaning up after events, picking up bits of ribbon or spilled food. The 400089 area of Mumbai is always loud and crowded, so finding our entrance can be a bit tricky if you aren't looking for it. We don't have a professional manager with a suit. It's usually just us, making sure the keys are in the right place and the water is running in the washrooms. Sometimes groups come in for meetings, and other times it's a loud family party. The acoustics aren't perfect, so it gets quite echoey when people start talking at once. We’ve had this hall for a long time. It’s seen a lot of history within the local community. We don't do much in terms of marketing because the community knows we are here. It’s a practical building. We just worry about keeping the floors swept and making sure the generator works if the power goes out. It's hard work, but it keeps us busy every week.
