Mehta Telecom

Mehta Telecom has been on Dr S S Rao Road in Lal Baug for quite some time now. The address is 264/2, which is easy to find if you know the area. Lal Baug is always moving, especially during festival times, and we are right in the thick of it. We are a small telecom shop. We sell SIM cards, do recharges, and help people with their bill payments. It’s not a high-end showroom. It's just a simple room with some shelves and a computer on the desk. We get a lot of workers from the nearby offices and residents who have lived here for many decades. I like talking to the customers; you hear all sorts of stories about the old days. We don't use any fancy digital systems for everything. We write things down in a register mostly. If you need a new phone cover or a pair of cheap earphones, we usually have them in a box somewhere. The shop gets quite dusty because of the heavy road traffic outside, so we are always cleaning the glass counter. It’s a bit of a struggle sometimes to keep everything tidy and looking nice. But we’ve built a good life here. It’s just an honest way to earn a living. We don't try to be anything we aren't. Just Mehta Telecom, serving the local crowd in Lal Baug. Sometimes my son comes after school to help with the cleaning and sorting.
