Master Pieces

You can find us on the ground floor of Jony Castle down in Colaba. It’s an old building, the kind you see a lot of in this part of Mumbai, with that heavy stone feel. The ceilings are high and the walls are thick, which helps a bit with the humidity, but we still keep the fans on full blast most of the time. Master Pieces is right there on the street level, so we see a lot of people walking by toward the Causeway. The shop itself is packed with things. We don't have much of a display system, so items are just sort of stacked where they fit. Sometimes you have to step over a box or two to get to the back. The lighting is a bit dim because the windows are small, but it gives the place a certain mood. We’ve been in this spot for quite some time. The floor tiles are worn down in the spots where people stand the most. Outside, you can always hear the taxis honking and the general chatter of the Colaba crowds. It’s a small space, and sometimes it feels a bit cramped when we have a lot of new stock coming in. We don't do much in the way of decorating the shop itself. We just focus on keeping track of what’s in the piles and talking to whoever wanders in. It’s a busy, somewhat messy little corner of a very old building where we just handle the day-to-day business.
