Arien Healthcare

Our place, Arien Healthcare, is tucked away in the Mangaldas Building No. 1. If you have ever been to the Dawa Bazar area on Mangaldas Road, you know exactly how hectic it is. It is right in the heart of the Princess Street market near Marine Lines. The building is quite old and has those high ceilings and narrow hallways that you only find in South Mumbai. We are at number 26. Every morning, the area is flooded with people and handcarts moving crates of medicines. It’s a noisy and crowded spot, but it is where all the action is for healthcare supplies. Our office is mostly filled with shelves and stacks of paperwork. We don't have much room for anything else. The windows are usually kept shut to keep out the dust and the noise from the street below, but you can still hear the constant honking. We spend most of our time answering the phone and checking stock levels. It’s a lot of manual tracking because we like to know where everything is. The lighting isn't great, just some old tubes, but it works for us. We know most of the other shopkeepers in the building. Sometimes we stop for a quick chat in the hallway or share a cutting chai from the vendor downstairs. It’s a very traditional way of doing business. We just keep our heads down and get through the daily orders.
