Our place, Maratha Prakashan Pvt Ltd, is over in Girgaon at 21/33 Bijli Nagar. We are right opposite Jagruti Printing Press, so you can often hear the sound of machines running across the way. Girgaon has that old Mumbai feel to it. The streets are narrow and there’s always someone walking by. Our office isn't very modern. It has that smell of old paper and ink that you only get in publishing houses. We’ve been around for a long time. There are stacks of books and manuscripts everywhere you look. It’s a bit of a maze sometimes. We sit at these old wooden desks that have probably seen better days. Every morning starts with a lot of reading and checking through proofs. We don't have a marketing team or anything like that. It’s just us doing the editing and making sure the print runs are okay. Sometimes people come in looking for specific old titles. We have to go digging through the back shelves for those. It’s dusty work but someone has to do it. The neighborhood is loud, especially during festivals. We usually keep the windows closed to hear ourselves talk. It’s a simple operation. We print things, we store them, and we get them out to the readers. Nothing fancy happens here, just the daily grind of a small publishing company in an old part of town that we really like.
