Manilal Lallubhai & Co

Our office and shop are situated at Plot No 225 on Kalbadevi Road. We are quite close to the Nar Narayan Mandir, which is a very well-known spot in this part of town. Kalbadevi is always packed with people and traffic, and our building is right in the middle of all that action. Manilal Lallubhai & Co has been around for a long time, handling various goods as things come and go. It’s an old building with high ceilings and heavy doors. We don't have fancy air conditioning or modern glass fronts, just the original structure that has seen a lot of years. Most of our work involves dealing with suppliers and making sure orders go out on time. The wooden counter is worn smooth in the middle from years of people leaning on it while they talk. I remember when Kalbadevi Road wasn't nearly this crowded, but now you can barely see the pavement for all the people. Near the Nar Narayan Mandir, the air always smells a bit like incense and street food. We have a small back room where we keep the bulkier items, and it’s always a bit of a struggle to keep it tidy. My father worked this same plot before me, and not much has changed in terms of how we do things. We still use the same heavy keys for the front gate. It takes a bit of muscle to slide the shutters up every morning.
