Mahavir Selection

Being right near Haji Ali Darga at number 87 is quite an experience. The crowds are huge, especially on certain days, and the air always has that salty smell from the sea nearby. Mahavir Selection is our small retail shop where we keep a variety of clothes and fabrics. It’s a busy little corner of Mumbai. We spend a lot of time unfolding and refolding shirts, trousers, and different materials for people who stop by after visiting the Darga. The shop isn’t massive, so we have to use every inch of wall space to hang our stock. It can get pretty hot with so many people coming in and out, but we have a couple of good fans that do the trick. We’ve seen the area change over the years, with new buildings going up and the roads getting wider, but our little shop stays pretty much the same. We like the energy of the street. Sometimes we just stand at the door for a minute to watch the sea of people passing by. It’s a lot of work keeping things tidy when customers are digging through the piles to find the right size or color, but that’s just retail. We don’t have any fancy sales pitches. People see what they like, they check the price, and if it fits, they take it. We just try to keep a good variety so there’s something for everyone who walks in through the door looking for something to wear for a wedding or just for work.
