If you ever walk down Trikumdas Road in Kandivali West, you’ll find us at Shop No. 1 in the Akansha Arcade building. We’ve been here for a while now, right near the Cine Star cinema. It’s a busy spot and there is always noise from the traffic outside. Inside the shop, things are a bit messy because of all the pigments and dyes we handle. You can usually see bits of blue or red dust on the floor tiles even after we sweep. My father started Mahavir Colour Company Llp and now I spend my days here along with a couple of other guys. We deal with all sorts of industrial colors. It’s not a glamorous job, and the smell of the chemicals is something you just get used to after a week or two. Customers come in looking for specific shades, and we spend a lot of time checking the labels on the bags. The Akansha Arcade Chs. is an old building, and the shop is small, but it fits everything we need. Sometimes when a movie lets out at Cine Star, the road gets completely blocked, and we just sit outside and wait for the crowd to pass. We aren't a big corporation with suit-wearing managers. It's just us in our work shirts, moving heavy bags and talking to painters and contractors who need supplies. It’s a lot of lifting and counting, but it keeps the lights on at home and we are proud of the work we do.
