Maharaja Houseware

Maharaja Houseware is right in the middle of the hustle at Masjid Bunder West. We are on Hosur Road at Shop No 70, inside the Kansara Chawl in Kalb. This part of the city is always packed. You can barely move some days with all the carts and people carrying big bags of goods. Our shop is crammed with stainless steel pots, pans, tiffin boxes, and all kinds of kitchen things. They are stacked from the floor right up to the ceiling. If you want something from the bottom pile, it takes a bit of work to get it out without everything else falling over. The metal clanging together is a sound we hear all day. It is quite a small space for so much inventory. The walls are lined with wooden shelves that have been there since the shop opened. We use a small stool to reach the higher items. The air inside can get a bit warm because of all the metal reflecting the light. Most people who come in are looking for something sturdy for their kitchen. We have a small ledger where we write down everything by hand. The ink often smudges because it is so humid. It is a very old-fashioned way of doing things, but it works for us. We know the other shopkeepers nearby and often share tea in the afternoons when it gets a little quieter.
