Lokmanya Tilak Municipal General Hospital

Located right on Sion Street, near the edge of Dharavi, this hospital is a landmark in the area. It’s the kind of place where you see the reality of the city every day. We get people coming in from the nearby lanes and from further out too. It’s a big municipal general hospital, so it’s rarely quiet. There is a constant sound of sirens and people talking in the corridors. We have many different departments spread out, and sometimes it takes a bit of walking to find the right window for your papers. The staff here are used to the rush. We don't have soft music or fancy waiting lounges. Instead, we have rows of wooden benches and a lot of people waiting their turn. It’s a practical place. We focus on getting the medicine out and the treatments done. Because we are near Dharavi and Sion, the volume of patients is always high. You might have to wait a while to see a specialist, but the care is there. The building itself has been around for a long time and feels lived-in. We aren't here to look pretty; we are here because people need a hospital they can actually afford. It’s a bit rough around the edges, and the smell of antiseptic is everywhere, but that’s just how it is when you’re helping people. We just do what needs to be done every day.
