Leelavati Hospital

This hospital sits at Backbay Reclamation A791 in Bandra West. It’s a location that everyone in this part of Mumbai knows fairly well. The building is older and has that specific smell of a place that’s been a hospital for decades. We are not too far from the water so sometimes you can feel a bit of a breeze if the windows are open in the hallways. Bandra West is always moving fast and we are right in the middle of it. The lobby is often full of families waiting for news or just sitting quietly together. We have several floors and the elevators are a bit slow so most of us just take the stairs to get around faster during the day. It’s a functional place without much decoration on the walls. We have a lot of different departments tucked into different corners of the building. The staff rooms are small and usually have empty tea cups sitting around on the tables. It gets very noisy outside with the traffic from the reclamation area but inside it stays mostly quiet for the patients. We just keep things moving as best as we can every day. There’s always someone arriving or leaving at all hours. It’s a big operation but it feels like a local spot because of the people who work here and have been here for years. We just do the job and stay late when we need to finish the tasks.
