This part of the company is located on Saki Vihar Rd. in Powai. It’s a massive place, really. When you walk through the gates of the Heavy Eng. Div., you see these huge pieces of equipment that make people look like ants. I work here along with hundreds of others. The scale of everything is just different. We have these giant cranes moving things overhead and the sound of heavy machinery never really stops. Even though it’s a big name, the daily life for us is just about checking blueprints and making sure the welds are solid. Powai is always crowded, and getting into the plant in the morning through the Saki Vihar traffic is a bit of a nightmare. Once you’re inside, you’re in a different world of steel and iron. We have our own canteen where everyone goes for lunch, and it’s always loud with people talking about their shifts. It’s an old-school engineering vibe despite the size of the place. We have a lot of rules about safety, obviously, so we’re always wearing helmets and boots. My desk is covered in old manuals and half-empty water bottles. It’s a lot of responsibility because the things we build are so big, but at the end of the day, we’re just a bunch of people in blue uniforms trying to get the job done right.
