About Kem Hospital – Medical & Healthcare in Mumbai
This is the microbiology department at Kem Hospital. We aren't in the main part where all the patients are; we are tucked away in our own section. Most of our day is spent in the lab, so we don't interact with the public very much. Our world is made up of test tubes, petri dishes, and microscopes. It’s a lot quieter back here than in the rest of the hospital, which helps us focus on our work. The air always has a bit of a sharp smell from the chemicals and cleaners we use to keep everything sterile. It’s not a fancy workspace. The benches are old and covered in equipment, and we have stacks of paperwork everywhere. We have a small team here and most of us have been working together for a long time. We know the routine inside and out. Some of the rooms don't have windows, so we sometimes lose track of the time of day when we’re busy with a long set of tests. When the hospital gets a lot of patients, our work piles up quickly because everyone is waiting on lab results. We just put our heads down and get through the samples one by one. It’s repetitive and sometimes tiring, but it’s what we do. We aren't looking for praise or anything; we just want to make sure the results are right for the doctors upstairs.
