Kaleskar Hospital

Kaleskar Hospital is located in the Versova area, which people also call Vesava. It is right in the heart of the old fishing village part of the neighborhood. The lanes around here are narrow and always smell like the sea and fish, which is just part of living here. The hospital itself is a modest building. It has been around for a while now and you can definitely tell. The paint is peeling a bit in the corners, and the hallways are quite narrow. We get a lot of the local Koli community coming in for treatment every single day. It’s a place where everyone knows everyone else. You won't find any high-tech glass elevators or expensive cafes here. We have a small waiting area with some plastic chairs and a fan that squeaks a little when it's on high. The doctors and nurses are used to the noise of the neighborhood. Children running outside and the sound of motorbikes going through the small streets are just part of the daily routine. It’s a very grounded place for everyone. We don't do much in terms of decoration; the walls just have a few simple posters about health. The focus is purely on getting people better so they can get back to their lives. It’s a hardworking hospital in a part of Mumbai that feels like a world of its own. It’s simple, a bit old-fashioned, and very much a part of the local Vesava life.
