If you want to find us, you have to go to No. 59 Babu Road and head up to the 3rd floor of Nand Bhavan. Being on the third floor means a lot of walking up and down every day, especially since we don't have an elevator that works. This is where we do all the manufacturing for Ahinsa Jewellery. It’s not a quiet place at all. There is the constant sound of hammering and the smell of metal being heated up. We aren't a retail shop where everything is shiny and clean. Our floor is usually covered in scraps and our clothes get dirty pretty fast. We have a small team of workers who have been with us for years. We sit at low benches with our tools spread out everywhere. It’s a bit cramped, but it’s how we’ve always worked. Kalbadevi Road is always crowded outside, so the noise from the street rises up even to the third floor. We make jewelry for other shops and sometimes for people who know us directly. We don't have a catalog or anything like that. We just make what is asked of us. It’s hard work and it gets very hot in the summer with the torches running. We just focus on the pieces in front of us and try to finish our orders on time before the sun goes down.
